Today is Wednesday, February 21, 2024. We left Malibu Beach and drove north to Avila Beach and Port San Luis, where we met up with old friends Tom and Janine, and their one-year-old Vizsla, Buddy. We camped at the Woodyard sites in Port San Luis for a couple of nights, alongside friends Brian and Kathy Metcalf and John and Kay Semon. We had a great time hanging out on the bluff overlooking the Port of San Luis and had a tasty Mexican dinner at the San Luis Yacht Club.
After saying our goodbyes, we headed to Arroyo Grande to stay with Tom and Janine, who graciously offered us a spot to park the Airstream in their driveway. It's the best campsite we've had so far, with beautiful scenery, great friends, activities for Portia, and a peaceful atmosphere. Moochdocking at its finest!
Before reaching Camp McNeill, we stopped at Avila Dog Beach to let Portia and Buddy burn off some energy. Unfortunately, Tom fell ill and tested positive for COVID. Janine also got sick a few days later, but our home COVID tests came back negative. A few days later, she tested positive. I. managed to dodge it again. Despite the virus, we still managed to have a wonderful time, keeping a safe distance from Tom and Janine since I had my own accommodations.
One of the highlights of camping at Camp McNeill is seeing Portia and Buddy bond over their love for chasing each other, squirrels and gophers on the three-acre hillside property. However, Portia has been struggling with an occasional limp, which may be due to degenerative joint disease or arthritis. We got her checked out by a vet in San Diego, who suggested monthly injections as a possible treatment. But Janine recommended a local holistic vet who also happens to be our friend Brian's brother, who combines Eastern and Western medicine, so we're excited to see what he recommends during our appointment this Friday. I'll be sure to update you on his opinion.
Until next time, be well, my friends!
Stay well Mike. And good luck to both you and Portia as you diagnose a cause and treatment plan.
